UCP MLA says his planned cuts are “going to hurt,” and supports privatized health care

EDMONTON – UCP MLA Dave Hanson says his caucus’ plan for cuts to public healthcare and education are “going to hurt,” and said he supports private healthcare.

In a forum in Bonnyville, Hanson, speaking of cuts to education, healthcare and public services, said, “I’m sorry to tell you, but it’s going to hurt. Will it affect you? It absolutely will.”[1]

Hanson stated he supported privatized healthcare, saying, “I’m in favour of anything.”

This isn’t the first time the UCP caucus has revealed their true plans. Former UCP MLA Derek Fildebrandt told a radio station last July, “There will be pain. I think that as conservatives, if we’re telling you that there will be no effect on services, we’re not being straightforward. There will be effects.”[2]

While Hanson’s honesty is refreshing, his commitment to make hurtful cuts to education and public healthcare won’t help his constituents.
