Calgary Varsity Part Time Constituency Assistant #8683

Additional Information:

Reporting to the MLA, the Constituency Assistant will be a liaison between the MLA and their constituency, community groups, stakeholders, and individuals. The individual will be required to work in a challenging, variable environment and take responsibility for assisting the MLA with community outreach, event support, casework, office management and correspondence. This position is based in Calgary. Travel to events and meetings across Calgary will be required.

Job Duties:

Staff the MLA at community events and activities
Represent the MLA at community association meetings and events as needed.
Contact community organizations about MLA participation in events
Liaise with caucus staff and other constituency staff on scheduling and outreach activities.
Respond to correspondence from constituents and stakeholders.
Assist with development and updating of MLA newsletters and constituency communications.
Assist constituents with accessing government services and programs
Administrative duties
Assist with other duties as assigned
Support executing and organizing events for the MLA office

Qualifications and Skills:
Degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong research abilities, involving effective information gathering and analysis
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to meet deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities
Familiarity with MS Windows, MS Teams, MS Office, OneNote and databases
Willingness to travel within the city and work flexible hours, including frequent evenings and weekends.
A demonstrated commitment to community volunteerism
A strong understanding of the political history of the constituency and of Alberta politics

The Calgary-Varsity Constituency Office is located at #232A, 3630 Brentwood Rd NW.

The riding of Calgary-Varsity is comprised of the communities of Banff Trail, Brentwood, Parkdale, Point McKay, Silver Springs, St. Andrews Heights, Charleswood, University District, University Heights, Varsity, and Varsity Estates.
