NDP Municipal Affairs Critic and MLA for Calgary-Buffalo Joe Ceci issued the following statement regarding the groundbreaking for the BMO Centre expansion:

“The expansion of the BMO Centre is vital to revitalizing Calgary’s downtown. That’s why we enabled it to move forward under our NDP government, along with several other projects that will grow and diversify Calgary’s economy.

“We need to move forward with other projects that will attract people to our downtown, including the construction of the Green Line. Unfortunately, the UCP government continues to delay the construction of this vital project and the 20,000 jobs it will create.

“At the same time, the UCP continue to push forward legislation that will cut $159 million in infrastructure funding from Calgary over the next two years, hindering economic growth and jeopardizing jobs.

“Instead of more cuts and delays by the UCP, it’s time for them to step up and commit to supporting our city so we can build a modern, diversified economy while creating good jobs for Calgarians.”
