PITT CALLS OUT KENNEY FOR BREAKING PUBLIC HEALTH RESTRICTIONS

EDMONTON – UCP MLA for Airdrie-East, Angela Pitt, has called out the Premier for violating COVID-19 public health restrictions less than one day after Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw refused to clear Premier Jason Kenney and several members of his Cabinet of any wrongdoing related to their gathering on the rooftop Sky Palace.

“Jason Kenney lied to Albertans when he claimed no rules were broken with this SkyPalace dinner,” said NDP Deputy Leader Sarah Hoffman. “Now, his own MLAs are calling him out. His arrogance and entitlement has lost the trust of his own caucus, and the trust of Albertans.”

In a press conference yesterday, Dr. Deena Hinshaw said that it is important for role models to acknowledge their mistakes when asked about the photos and addressing Albertans about following public health restrictions.

“It’s complete hypocrisy,” Hoffman said. “Jason Kenney promised Albertans in April that if members of his caucus broke COVID-19 restrictions, or encouraged others to do so, that they would be removed from his caucus. But that promise apparently doesn’t apply to Kenney and his SkyPalace drinking buddies.

“Albertans have been making sacrifices and following the rules. Many small businesses are struggling to keep their heads above water, and will feel the economic effects from COVID-19 for a long time.”
