UCP FAILS CARGILL WORKERS AGAIN

EDMONTON - The UCP need to immediately commit to vaccinating all employees of Cargill following revelations that their plan to vaccinate all workers starting on Thursday were suddenly cancelled on Tuesday night. 

As reported by the Globe and Mail on Wednesday, workers at the Cargill High River Plant were informed on Tuesday night that the vaccination clinic was being cancelled with no date to reopen it.

“This is even more appalling treatment of the hard working people at Cargill from the UCP,” said NDP Critic for Labour Christina Gray. “The UCP assured workers their workplace was safe when they knew about workplace transmission. They blamed the workers and their homes for the spread, and now days before they were scheduled to be vaccinated, this government pulled the rug out from under them and provided no information about when they might be given the vaccines they were promised.”

In the Question Period today Jason Kenney blamed the reason to cancel this clinic with zero notice on vaccine shortages. Kenney refused to confirm to a date that it would be opened to vaccinate the workers of Cargill.

“This Premier is clearly more interested in scoring political points against the federal government than helping these workers,” said Gray.  It is shameful conduct from a Premier and a government who have repeatedly let workers down. These workers deserve better and they deserve the vaccinations he promised them.”
