Spring 2016 - Bill 20: Climate Leadership Implementation Act

The pollution from carbon-based fuels that is emitted into our environment costs us all in terms of health and quality of life.

This plan will balance the urgent need to deal with climate change with the equally important need of protecting low- and middle-income families during this economic downturn.

Every penny not rebated to low- and middle-income families will be reinvested into the economy.

Alberta's energy industry is the backbone of our economy, and the carbon levy proposed under this legislation will be reinvested back into the economy to help our energy industry diversify.

Alberta's Climate Leadership Plan protects our health and environment, supports Alberta families now and into the future, strengthens our economy and establishes Alberta as both an economic and environmental leader in Canada.

Bill 20 passed third reading on June 7, 2016 and came into force on June 13, 2016.
