Fall 2016 - Bill 32: Credit Union Amendment Act

Credit unions are a big part of Alberta’s financial industry and our communities.

Credit unions employ 3,300 Albertans full-time and serve more than 620,000 members through branches in 123 communities throughout the province.

The amendments will:

  • allow credit unions to broker insurance sales, which will increase consumer choice in communities around the province
  • strengthen credit unions' ability to lend to small- and medium-sized businesses
  • increase transparency by requiring them to disclose salaries of the highest paid executives
  • make sure that smaller credit unions have a voice in the governance board.

Bill 32 passed third reading in the Legislature on December 12, 2016.
