Trans Rights are Human Rights

On January 31, Danielle Smith and her UCP Government launched an attack on the fundamental human rights of all Albertans. In a video uploaded online, Danielle Smith proposed sweeping changes to health care access, student gender identity, and access to sexual health education in schools and access to sports.

The government have chosen to target the safety and well-being of children. They are attempting to stoke fear in the hearts of parents who want their kids to be safe and for schools to be a space where they can thrive.

The Charter of Rights And Freedoms is an essential foundational document for all Canadians, and all human rights must be protected.

Now is not the time to stay silent.

We the undersigned residents of Alberta call on the Legislative Assembly to urge the Government to stop proposed changes that will:

  • Limit health care access and autonomy for Albertans.
  • ⁠Prevent Albertans from free expression of self identity in classrooms.
  • Limit fundamental rights for students to access sexual health education.
  • ⁠Prevent Albertans from freely participating in sport.
