Julia Hayter is devoted to the well-being of her community, believing Albertans deserve a strong diversified economy, public schools that prepare kids for success and well-funded public health care.

Before being elected as the MLA for Calgary-Edgemont in 2023, Julia worked as an Education Assistant for the Calgary Board of Education, as well as for several not-for-profits supporting people with disabilities. In these roles she saw firsthand the challenges faced by families and individuals. Her passion for grassroots engagement led her to serve as Chair of the parent council for her children’s school and work on multiple election campaigns across Calgary.

Julia serves as the Official Opposition Shadow Minister for the Status of Women. She has been a steadfast advocate for public education, accessible healthcare, and gender equity. In the Legislature, she continues to push for policies that expand opportunities for women, strengthen public services and voices constituents' concerns.  In 2023, Julia put forth a motion for Universal Prescription Contraception with the goal of ensuring Albertans have access to healthcare. Most recently, Julia introduced a bill aimed at improving access to much needed psychological assessments for students in public schools.

Outside of politics, Julia enjoys spending time with her three school-age children, cuddling with her dog and cats, and cultivating her love for gardening.

Through every role she’s held, Julia remains dedicated to building stronger communities and advancing a more equitable future for all Albertans.
